Bryan Springer is an MFA graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design where he studied illustration with a concentration in the pastel medium. His professional career began by working in-house creative and marketing for corporation where he eventually rose to the level of Senior Designer/Art Director, leading an in-house marketing creative team in design, direction, and development of visual brand identity.

In tandem with his corporate experience, for over 10 years, he has been enjoying a successful career as a freelance graphic designer and pastel artist in the Metro Detroit/Ann Arbor, MI area. Also being committed to art in education, he has taught art courses at Hillsdale College, the Ella Sharp Museum in Jackson, MI and the Ann Arbor Art Center in Ann Arbor, MI. Currently, as professor of the Hillsdale College art department, he teaches primarily computer graphics courses.

Springer says of his pastel work, "With a classical approach to art, I began my training working with oils, which I once believed to be the premiere medium enabling artists to create truly powerful imagery. However, early in my career as an Illustrator I began experimenting with pastels and discovered that I could create impressionable art with great dimension and speed while mimicking the core techniques of oils of layering to reflect the beauty and fluid movement of a painter's brush stroke. Working with my hands, pastel represents a physical art form that offers a direct connection to my work and rouses the earthly and atmospheric quality of the art.

My work centers on the human figure and the subjectivity of human emotion. Through the figure, I strive to express a state of emotion too elusive to be clearly defined. A malleable method of art, pastel enables me to emulate reality and bring the intricacies of the human form and individual expression to life through subtle gradients, layering, blending, and fine line."
