Exhibits 2020–2021

The Hillsdale College art department hosts 4-5 Professional Artist Series exhibits each academic year in the Fine Art Building's, Daughtrey Gallery. Exhibited work typically reflects media taught within the art department and echos the traditional values espoused in its mission. All exhibits are free and open to the public.

Mathias Alten February 19 – March 26, 2021

The German-born American Impressionist Mathias Joseph Alten, who resided in Grand Rapids, Michigan, is regarded as one of the most celebrated regionalist artists to have worked in the United States. Alten created more than 3,000 works of art during his career including landscapes, seascapes, portraits, florals, and still-lifes. Working in a traditional representational style, Alten incorporated the aesthetics and techniques of the Impressionist Movement into his paintings.
